Sweet Cherubim is not only a restaurant that supports organic farming, offers sustainable packaging alternatives and follows environmentally sustainable business practices. No, Sweet Cherubim is also a restaurant that serves really good  vegan food. Why highlight that? Simply because many vegan restaurants focus too much on the vegan, and forget about the quality of food. That is not the case of Sweet Cherubim at all.

With an indian menu for lunch and dinner (their chick pea samosa is the best I have tried so far), they also offer a wide variety of sweets, including many raw items. I have never thought a raw chocolate cream pie could be so tasty. You can also find cookies, bliss balls, brownies and even a vegan version of the Nanaimo Bar. The restaurant is not vegan, but they hold lots of vegan options, as you can read on a board: "Our menu is vegan, except where indicated".

Not only is the food great, the atmosphere is welcoming and clean and the service is very friendly.  Sweet Cherubim opens everyday, and it's located on Commercial Drive, one of the best streets in the city for hungry vegans. No wonder it was opened more than thirty years ago and it still is a success.

 Ao contrário do Brasil, grande parte dos restaurantes vegetarianos não traz nenhuma informação mais explícita indicando tratar-se de um local vegetariano. Então é sempre uma satisfação descobrir novos estabelecimentos, principalmente quando é totalmente por acaso, como foi o caso do Sweet Cherubim.

Quando entrei lá, tinha acabado de almoçar num restaurante não muito bom na mesma rua (a ótima e um tanto alternativa Commercial Drive) e estava procurando por novidades numa loja de produtos naturais. No mesmo prédio da loja funciona o restaurante, que oferece principalmente comida indiana (o robusto samosa de grão de bico é o melhor que já provei até hoje) e alguns salgados. Mas o que mais chama a atenção (principalmente para alguém que havia acabado de almoçar, como eu, e estava necessitando de um doce) são as sobremesas. Há cookies, tortas, brownies, muffins e diversas invenções mesclando frutas, chocolate e castanhas. Algumas são crudívoras. Falando nisso, o restaurante não é vegano, mas a maior parte dos produtos é. Como diz numa placa: "Nosso menu é vegano, exceto onde indicado".

O local é simples mas aconhegante e o atendimento é sempre ótimo. O Sweet Cherubim informa no seu site que adota práticas sustentáveis, como promover produtores locais e adotar embalagens ecológicas.

Vancouver - Gorilla Food

Gorilla Food is definitely a unique restaurant in Vancouver. The food served is not only vegan but organic and raw. Yep, they don't cook their foods but that doesn't mean the flavor is away. If you are not familiar with the concept of living food and think it may be limited to sprout salads and dried fruits, wait to see their menu. Burgers, wraps, pies, cookies, chocolate fudge, sandwiches and even pizzas can be ordered, proving they have a lot of creativity. The same taste for innovation we can see in the decoration, mixing modern, rough and artistic.

The small but comfortable restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

Quem vier a Vancouver não pode deixar de visitar o Gorilla Food, pois no Brasil dificilmente terá a oportunidade de ir a um restaurante vegano, orgânico e de comida viva. Sim, os alimentos no Gorilla Food não são cozidos, mas isso não implica em qualquer limitação do cardápio.  Quem pensa que comida crua tem que ser sem graça vai logo mudar de ideia depois de ver que o menu está repleto de opções como burguers, sanduíches, cookies, docinhos, tortas, smoothies, sopas e até mesmo pizzas.
